Baking Soda

There are two method of manufacturing baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). The first method is a chemical synthesis called the Solvay Process. This is a chemical synthesis rtarting with brine water. This process is not used in the United States. In the United States we use the second process which is minig from natural deposits of two minerals called Trona an Nahcolite. Both of these are mined in slightly different ways and then mechamilly processed to give us baking soda.

Trona is mined by pumping hot water down into the deposit and pumping up the nahcolite slurry. Then evaporating off the water to give baking soda. Trona is actually the miineral version of soda ash so that material is firsat mined as a solid from deposits. The soda as is then dissolved in water and cardon dioxide is passed through to convert the soda ash to baking soda. The carbon dioxide is concentrated from the air  and just passing it through the dissolved soda ash will give us baking soda.

In the United States baking soda is mined so we classified this product as Natural.
