Benzoin Powder

Benzoin powder starts itws life as a resin called Gum Benjamin. This resin comes from the Styrax tree native to Asian countries like Indonesia. The benzoin resin is then extracted from the Styrax trees and collected. This resin is then dried and ground into a fine powder. In short Benzoin can be a thick resin or powder.  

Why does Grandma use Benzoin powder or resin? It is mainly used for its ability to act as a fragrance fixative mean it helps things retain their intended aroma alot longer. It also has the benefits of acting like an antispetic and has some antiinflammatory properties.
